Role of the Veterinary Technician Anesthetist
-Team approach
-Arrange the patient
-Set up the anesthesia machine
-Monitor the anesthesia machine in the surgery room

Monitoring
-Constant monitoring while the patient is under general anesthesia or sedation.
-Check the patient every 5 min* and denote findings on the anesthesia form.
-Several parameters must be monitored during surgery.

Monitoring Parameters
Vital signs
-Homeostatic mechanism’s response to
-anesthesia
-Heart rate
-Heart rhythm
-Respiratory rate and depth
-Mucous membrane color
-Capillary refill time
-Pulse strength
-Blood pressure
-Body temperature

Best indicator of patient wellbeing
